The role
Duties and responsibilities
·
Develop and implement ICE Scotland’s Communications Plan to ensure ICE vision, core purpose and objectives are delivered effectively at regional level.
·
Ensure effective communications with members of the outputs delivered in the region, in response to the membership satisfaction survey requirements for improvement (RFI), to ensure their on-going understanding, commitment and increased satisfaction.
·
Support volunteers and the regional committee in promotion of events and activities through production and distribution of monthly e-news and events bulletin, electronic mailings, branding and design input in to annual calendar of events and other collateral.
·
Produce hardcopy newsletter including editorial, editing and management of design, print and distribution to ensure members are informed on a regular basis of ICE activity and outputs.
·
Manage the content and development of the regional electronic communications and web pages to deliver timely, accurate, valuable and up-to-date information to provide effective member communication.
·
Support in the development and co-ordination of outline programmes, liaison with speakers, and development of marketing campaigns including production of promotional materials for major regional seminars, conferences and breakfast meetings to ensure quality events which are valued by delegates and with attendance levels which result in surplus income (where relevant).
·
Support volunteers with regional awards including marketing campaigns, sponsorship and collateral, prizes and media coverage to ensure that civil engineering achievement is recognised and rewarded.
·
Build relationships with regional and local government and regional development organisations to assist the region in influencing policy development and implementation to reflect ICE’s position and priorities for infrastructure.
·
Support regional experts and Regional Director in background research and in copywriting ICE Scotland’s responses to regional consultations and briefing sheets in order to provide advice to regional government / influence policy.
·
Develop and maintain a database of regional experts who can act as spokespeople, maximising the internal knowledge base of ICE, to ensure that ICE projects are a credible and engaging ‘public face’ to all external stakeholders.

Build relationships with media outlets /contacts
·
Support the Membership Development Officer by development of appropriate collateral and promotion of seminars and workshops to enable members, and potential members, to access appropriate and timely advice to assist them in their professional development.
·
Provide professional communication project management and sourcing, including negotiations with suppliers to maximise efficient operations and use of limited budget.
·
To use the media to raise the profile of infrastructure issues, civil engineering, civil engineers, ICE and its activities in Scotland
·
To deliver strategies that maximise positive public affairs influencing activity
·
To maintain relationships with key influencers in infrastructure and engineering in Scotland
·
To produce high-quality marketing and communications material to support our public voice and knowledge transfer goals
·
To provide essential PR support for other ICE activities in Scotland
What are we looking for?
·
Significant experience of media relations is essential.

Significant experience of marketing communications is essential.

Strong experience in all aspects of social media including desktop content management systems.

Strong oral and written communications skills, and the ability to assimilate and distil technical information to produce copy and messages appropriate to the audience is essential

Strong reporting skills, the ability to provide regular, timely and concise reports, both verbal and written is essential

Attention to detail, with good proof reading and editing skills to ensure high quality outputs is essential.

Experience of using Desk-top Publishing software, databases and website Content Management Systems coding is desirable.
